It has been brought to our attention that a company by the name of HomeServe USA Repair Management Corporation has been mailing letters to residents within the Village of Whiting soliciting insurance policies for private water and/or sewer laterals.
It is the property owner’s responsibility to cover repair costs of the water lateral from the home to the right-of-way. The property owner’s responsibility for sewer laterals applies for the area from the home to the sewer main.
The Village of Whiting would like to advise residents to do their research when considering water or sewer lateral insurance. It may be best to check with your home insurance provider to see if your current policy covers repairs to your water or sewer laterals, and if not they may be able to provide you with a quote for those services.
Information can also be collected on HomeServe USA through the Better Business Bureau.
